I discovered and came to love the Japanese art and especially Sumi-e very long before I even new what it was. As a little girl right from the firs sight I was fascinated by the genius simplicity, mastery of technique and the power of expression in every stroke. Just by looking very carefully and copying the pictures of bamboo trees, flowers, landscapes with mountains, grass, rocks, pagodas, ducks I was able to appreciate the philosophy of life behind it, the meaning of the negative space. I wanted to learn more but the life came in the way. Now, many years since then, I'm excited to take the Introduction course to Sumi-e Painting here.
