Horia Manolache

I spent two years in a technical university before finally deciding to follow my artistic instinct and search for meaning and a way of self-expression. Several years later, I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Filmmaking and went on to pursue a Master’s degree at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.

During my studies in San Francisco, I created several photo series that brought me my first major photography awards: 1st Place at the International Photography Awards – Editorial/Personality, 1st Place for Book Proposal at Prix de la Photographie Paris, 4th Place at the Florence Biennale, an Honourable Mention in the group exhibition “The Perimeter of the World” at Rayko Gallery, and 1st Place Winner at the Longford Art Photography – Expressions Portrait Competition and Exhibition. I was also nominated for the Felix Schoeller Photo Award – Best Work by an Emerging Photographer, for PDN’s 30 in 2016, and for Forbes 30 Under 30 in Romania.

My work has been shown in several group and solo exhibitions, including at the Florence Biennale, Rayko Gallery, Alchemia Gallery, 4x5 Gallery, Espace Beaurepaire, Le Magasin de Jouets Galerie during Arles Photo Festival, Photoplace Gallery, the de Young Museum in San Francisco, and the France Cultural Center in Thailand.

Soon after, my work began to attract attention from both print and online magazines, and it was published in Rangefinder Magazine as an Editor’s Choice, Forbes Up, Forbes Life, Lenscratch, LensCulture, RedBull, DIY Photography, Elle Decor, Bored Panda, PetaPixel, and many others.
