Natural inclusions are a great way to decor paper, it is actually my favorite thing to do while creating paper. Note that not all natural elements are suited to be included and mixed in your paper pulp. I recommend very thin petals. Another thing to consider is the color of the petals you are going to use. If you choose blue, red, purple petals they are probably going to lose some color and leave some sort of bleeding on the paper once it is dry. Calendula petals work great because while they will still loose some color, the bright yellow will remain. I personally prefer to work with dried petals which I rinse in water before use. I usually leave the dried petals in water for about 30 minutes before I put them in the vat where I am making paper. In these 30 minutes they start to lose a little of their color. Less color on the petals means less stains on the finished piece of paper. If you want to keep the bright colors of the petals, you can avoid this step, make your handmade paper and be sure to dry it as fast as possible in the sun or with a hair dryer. If you wait for the paper to dry overnight as taught in this course, the petals will stay in a humid condition for longer and will start to lose their color onto the paper.
