I am a retired Social educator (worked with children with autism, ADHD, ADD, and anxieties, and more recently a hobby potter or a ceramicist, or whatever applies ;-)
I had the luck in 2019 to have a friend who purchased a small kiln and she offered me to try it out with her.
I got myself some clay and then a lot of time went into watching pottery videos, researching the web and, of course getting a hold of some tools.
Since I had absolutely no knowledge of working with clay, I spent more time at first learning from all the generous potters who displayed their work and how-to's online.
I still search and study clay, because I still have so much to learn.
Since my friend's garage is old and run down, it can be damp and cold in the winter months, so most of my work is done in summer/fall, as my garden takes a lot of time in spring.....
But every time I go out there and put my hands into clay, it feels so good. I also have started making glazes and enjoy it very much when I am successful, which, BTW, is not all the time.
I use hand building the most, but still need to learn a lot before I feel confident, and the wheel is still very much of a challenge for me.
But as long as I have a place to potter about, I will make things out of clay.
