Merengue Script is the second typeface designed by Panco, once again in collaboration with Ale Paul, who oversaw the entire development. This time, the process of researching forms and systematizing the signs led him to explore new paths. The objective was to generate a system of signs in which their construction was not directly linked to traditional calligraphy or text typography. Instead, he sought to design signs that, while inspired by brushpen calligraphy, had their most important features drawn or literally illustrated. The result is a font with personality, authenticity, and unusual formal aspects that make Merengue Script an unusual, very attractive, and interesting font.
From its inception, the goal was to create a font with weight, good presence in large formats, but also with good performance in short texts in small formats, so that it could be used primarily in packaging for sweets, candies, and chocolates.
With a predominance of curved shapes, harmonious modulations, and friendly and playful visual rhythms, Merengue Script achieves a unique effect in its use, imbuing text with a highly engaging visual appeal, capable of transforming simple text into a virtual illustration that semantically reinforces messages in a simple manner, without compromising readability.
With a basic set, flourish-filled stylistic alternatives for initial, ornamental, and final letters, plus a set of unconnected symbols, Merengue Script offers a wide and versatile range of options for graphic designers when approaching any packaging design.
