Project Development:
I sought to apply the final work of the "Thinking in Three Dimensions" course to an actual project. For this, I was contacted by a band from Argentina that needed two songs (singles) illustrations.
After listening to the songs, I realized that one spoke of the positive aspects of life and the second about depression. A painting by Salvador Dalí came to mind as inspiration, where he depicted a room whose elements formed the face of a woman. Thinking that the positive and negative are within a person's mind, in constant struggle or as part of the same space, I came up with the idea of creating a room that symbolizes the mind. It would feature two people: one more colorful in a corner full of light, and on the other side, a depressed person in a dark corner.
Then, I thought of placing two windows to represent the reality that each person sees from their side. From one side, a flowery and bright landscape enters through the window, along with life suggested by a climbing plant that comes into the interior. Through the other window is a night landscape with a full moon and a sea, symbolizing time that never passes.
To reinforce the idea of time that does not pass, I made a clock with disordered numbers inside and some falling off it. Starting from an imaginary sketch, I schematically drew how it should be and began the construction.
It was both a choice and a challenge to make as many elements as possible in natural wood to provide real textures. I used wallpaper with a complex lattice in pastel colors, making the windows stand out even more. On the other hand, I decided to create a double background where I would place the printed images of the landscapes. This serves a dual purpose: the first is to add depth to the scene by being able to open the windows outward, creating depth, and the second is to illuminate from above so that light enters through the windows, making these the most illuminated parts of the diorama. In turn, they manage the light intensity of the room, casting fantastic shadows.
Everything was painted with acrylics and illuminated with three light sources.
I love the final result, and I must thank Oscar San Martín for this beautiful course that has impacted me and left me with fantastic tools to continue working.
