Digital Portraits: Draw Female Characters in Natural Light

I was so excited when I got to collaborate with Domestika to create my own course! I thought long about what I wanted to teach, and eventually I decided to focus on the painting process of a portrait with an interesting and organic light pattern.

So to start off, I decided to make a moodboard with some inspiring images. I used images which I found on Instagram and Pinterest, which are both great sources for references.

Based on this moodboard, I created a quick compositional sketch. This sketch served as a blueprint of my final painting.

After I created the basis for my portrait, I made a refined sketch / lineart. After that, I merged the lineart with some base colors on one layer. I then added basic shading and highlights and began rendering all the elements of the piece using different brushes in ArtRage. After I was happy with the general stage of the piece, I edited its colors with Photoshop.

Below is the final artwork I made throughout my Domestika course! <3 I really enjoyed working with these warm, red tones and adding those final little details. I hope you like it :)
