Justin Solà

I am a British artist, illustrator & designer. I have spent a number of years working in a variety of design environments, from a small boutique studio to a global software development company designing covers for video games.

Like almost all people, i started creating art from the moment i could pick up a crayon! I had the easy decision to go to art college when i left school as it was the subject i excelled at and where all of my interest lay! From there i went to university and studied Graphic design. I have been working as a designer and illustrator ever since.

I have produced a variety of work including branding, brochure design, POS, flyers, posters, tickets, merchandising, newsletters, banners, apparel illustration, artist edition skateboard illustration and editorial illustration.

I have worked for Mixcloud, Pacha Group, Sole Technology, Random House Publishing, Hidden Valley Snowboard Academy, La Masia Summer Festival, Velvet Club Malaga and Snoozebox Portable Hotels amongst others.

Some of my illustration work consists of trend based iconic subjects, while others are personal explorations converted into visual ideas. Portraiture has a large presence in my work. I use a variety of mediums including pencil, ink, spray paint and acrylic. I also have an expert level in Adobe creative suit which i use for my graphic design work and digital illustration.

The process is a mix of observational study and my own interpretation and imagination. My style tends to have a rough, unpolished feel to it with lots of sharp, angular lines, layers and textures. This aesthetic is inspired from the rocky environment in the mountains. I have spent many years snowboarding and i love to analyse the cracks and creases that form within the surface of the rocks and how the shadows are cast because of the irregular surface.
