Hello, I'm Jacqueline! I'm a former wedding cake artist turned sugarcraft and cake decorating Instructor, and the Founder/Creative Director of Petalsweet, based in San Diego, California.
After a first career in the non-profit sector and falling in love with sugar flowers as a hobbyist baker, I launched my cake business in 2005, and Petalsweet became one of Southern California's best known secrets in wedding cake artistry. Known for clean, delicate, modern floral designs and fresh color palettes, my sugar flowers and cakes were enjoyed by fabulous couples throughout San Diego, Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area.
After sharing my signature sugar flower techniques with a few colleagues, I discovered my love for teaching both sugarcraft and high-end cake design. Since then, I've focused my business on providing hands-on workshops and tutorials for both professional cake decorators and sugarart enthusiasts all over the world, as well as creating online courses and authoring two best-selling sugar flower books, Modern Sugar Flowers Volumes I and II.
A few years ago I began experimenting with wafer paper, and have found it a wonderful medium for flower making. You can create flowers using a wide range of coloring techniques, petals look beautifully translucent, flowers can be made and then used more quickly, and finished flowers are very lightweight and easy to arrange on cakes. Over time I've developed my own wafer paper tips and techniques, as well as a popular and modern wafer paper floral style, and I'm excited to share these with you in my course!
