In this guide, we share an easy warmup routine for presentations and public speaking that will leave you ready to captivate your audience.
Start with neck rolls
Tension often settles in the neck and shoulders. Begin your routine with three neck rolls in one direction, followed by three in the other. This simple exercise relaxes the upper body and promotes better posture.
Stretch your upper body and shoulders
Public speaking requires good posture. Start by making small elbow circles and gradually make them bigger. Switch directions, ensuring that you stretch your shoulders and release built-up tension. Follow this by linking your fingers, stretching your arms outward, and lifting them above your head. These stretches improve your physical presence and energy.
Practice deep breathing
Controlled breathing is crucial for calming nerves. Use the 4-4-4 technique: breathe in for four counts, hold for four counts, and exhale for four counts. Gradually increase the count to five or six for deeper relaxation. This method regulates your autonomic nervous system, keeping you calm and focused.
Loosen up your jaw
Speech clarity begins with a relaxed jaw. Pretend to chew a large piece of toffee to release tension. Enhance the effect by massaging your jawline with the heels of your hands. Pair this with a lip trill exercise to wake up facial muscles.
