Susannah Fisher

Up until five years ago I was convinced (by others and my own self-doubt) that I couldn't draw and paint realistic portraits. That getting a likeness was beyond my skillset, but I still harbored a deep desire to make figurative work. After taking a five-day pastel portrait workshop by the artist Sophie Ploeg where she showed a step of her process each day, I realized that the only barrier between me and my dream was that nobody had ever showed me how to make portraits!

Now I can't stop. It's all I want to do. I take more workshops, and I put in the hours of practice. I can get a likeness, but now I want to add mood and atmosphere. I'm at the point where I want to loosen up my style and experiment with oil painting, too!
