Hi, my name is Leah, I live in Sykesville Maryland with my husband, Joe, and our adorable black cat, Sparky. Art, nature, animals, vintage and antique collectibles, jewelry (old and new), reading and sunsets are just a few things that make my heart full. In my spare time I also enjoy spending time with my family, learning, crafting, long walks in nature, and tending to my many plants both inside and outside my home.
Throughout my life art has been my foundation for joy and creative growth. Photography, drawing, jewelry design (beaded, wire wrapping, silverware jewelry and metal smithing), floral design (silk arrangements and dried floral arrangements) have been a few areas of art Ive grown to love. However it wasn't until 2018 when I first discovered macramé on Pinterest, I knew I had found my creative calling. Now, 9 years later, I am the macrame artist behind Free Spirit Fiber Art, a small business centered around my love for creating macramé home decor and accessories. My work can be viewed on Facebook and Instagram, I also sell a selection of my products at a shop in Frederick, Maryland, Lily & Birch Market.
While my passion for macrame art has been a large part of my life, in 2020 my life took a sudden turn when my mother was diagnosed with dementia. Since that time, I have been by my mom's side as her caregiver and health advocate. As I now I have many responsibilities geared around my mom, devoting time to my needs and my creative passion has been cut short. However, through this change I've realized the importance of finding balance between life's difficulties and what makes me happy. The importance of self care and self love are key to managing this balance. For me, art is self care which is why I am here on Domestika, to replenish my soul with new forms of creativity and knowledge.
