Melina Arins

Hello! I was given the name Melina thanks to the admiration my mother felt for the Greek artist Melina Mercouri. Accordingly, I have developed a true taste for different cultures and arts, which I believe are a fantastic means of developing perception, consciousness and self-knowledge. I have a special interest in calligraphy (and scripts in general), music, and languages — although many other things catch my attention, after all it is difficult to keep untouched amid all the rich and beautiful diversity in the world.

After a few experiences in not so related areas, I have been working mainly as a translator (Portuguese · English · French) and a proofreader. I often collaborate in the field of arts (translating master classes and lectures at music events, or subtitles for interviews and short films; as well as proofreading CD booklets, press releases for performers and performances, texts in comic books, etc.), sometimes also as an assistant producer. Besides, I know that I will spend my life studying languages (I have already explored some Japanese and Latin; at the moment I am investing in German and Chinese; I still intend to learn at least Russian and Arabic). I have always made little artistic forays, so this time I really want to take it further and, hopefully, become a professional calligrapher as well.
