Brand and identity redesign for Família Madalosso

O Restaurante Madalosso é um ícone Curitbano. Foi inaugurado em 1963, e fez tanto sucesso nos 57 anos desde sua criação, que é hoje o maior restaurante do Brasil. Lá são servidas às vezes mais de três mil refeições em um domingo normal. O Madalosso virou um ponto de referência na cidade, e todo Curitibano tem uma história de amor com o restaurante. Mas apesar de suas dimensões, ele ainda preserva a proximidade no atendimento e a comida caseira de origem Italiana. Os garçons tratam os clientes tradicionais pelo nome, e os fundadores estão sempre presentes no salão e na cozinha.

Por isso, foi com muita alegria e orgulho que redesenhamos a marca e identidade do Madalosso. Começamos sugerindo que o nome passasse a ser “Família Madalosso”, pois achamos que além de ser administrado por uma família, todos ali se sentem em casa. Depois redesenhamos seu ícone, que é o galo, fazendo com que ele ficasse mais simples, moderno e de fácil aplicação. Para a tipografia, usamos uma fonte marcante chama Montecatini, desenhada por Louise Fili. A paleta de cores traz referências à arquitetura Italiana, e os grafismos nós fomos buscar na própria decoração do restaurante. Para completar, criamos também a marca e a identidade do Velho Madalosso, que é um restaurante da família que tem um clima mais intimista, e dos produtos especiais Flora Madalosso. Dona Flora é uma das fundadoras do restaurante, e é responsável pela operação da cozinha desde a sua criação. Suas receitas são tão apreciadas, que vão gerar produtos especiais para serem levados pra casa.

Ficamos muito felizes com o resultado, pois trouxemos frescor e modernidade à nova marca e identidade, ao mesmo tempo em que conseguimos celebrar a tradição e as origens Italianas do Família Madalosso.

Madalosso is an iconic restaurant from the city of Curitba. It was opened in 1963, and has been so successful in the 57 years since its creation, that it is now the largest restaurant in Brazil. Sometimes more than three thousand meals served on a normal Sunday. Madalosso has become a point of reference in the city, and every ‘Curitibano’ has a love story with the restaurant. But despite its dimensions, it still preserves the proximity of the service and the homemade food of Italian origins. The waiters treat traditional customers by their names, and the founders are always present in the lounge and in the kitchen.

So it was with great joy and pride that we redesigned Madalosso's brand and identity. We started by suggesting that the name should be changed to “Madalosso Family”, as we think that in addition to being administered by a family, everyone there feels at home. Then we redesigned its icon, which is the rooster, making it simpler, more modern and easy to apply. For its typography, we used a striking font called Montecatini, designed by Louise Fili. The color palette brings references to Italian architecture, and the graphics were patterns that we found on the restaurant's decoration. To complete, we also created the brand and identity of Velho Madalosso, which is a family restaurant that has a more intimate atmosphere, and of special products Flora Madalosso. Dona Flora is one of the founders of the restaurant, and has been responsible for the operation of the kitchen since its creation. Her recipes are so appreciated that they generated special products that the costumers can take home.

We are very happy with the result, because we brought freshness and modernity to the new brand and identity, while being able to celebrate the Italian tradition and origins of the Family.
