My name is Tiago Dias dos Santos, a child of the eighties, and although an well travelled man, I’m currently living in the city where I was born and raised, Porto, in Portugal.
I’m a bachelor in Audiovisual Communication Technologies, with an specialization in Photography, that I concluded while living in Antwerp, with a photo essay on the lives of the Turkish and Jewish communities living in the city. Fascinated with all the richness that that cultural interchange had brought me, I went on travelling, working and living through Europe. First I moved to Berlin, to work at Video and Animation Studio, Datenstrudel, were I was mainly in charge of the video and photography post production and some light graphic design, and some production assistant and, after that, I moved to London, and started a new job at the Association of Photographers, being not only a gallery, competitions and awards assistant, but also in charge of researching new authors and projects, and had the chance to meet a lot of interesting new photographers.
I eventually came back to Porto, and started working as a Photography Technician, at the Photography and Digital Arts Department of the Multimedia Laboratories, at the Superior School of Music and Performing Arts, providing support to the students and professors of the school, and also engaging on some video and photography production of the different shows, plays and concerts. At the same time I also worked as a photographer for the São João National Theatre, Helena Sá e Costa Theatre, and enrolled in a Master in Multimedia, in the Culture and Arts branch, that I concluded with a thesis about artistic residencies. For that, I produced a video documentary with the work of Binaural/Nodar Cultural Association as a study case, allowing me to work closely with them.
For the past few months, I’ve been working as a trainer, in Photography, Video and Post-Production, and as a Communication Manager for a couple of projects. During all my time in Porto, I’ve also worked as a freelancer and took part in various projects, individually or in collaboration, both in video and photography, mainly architecture, landscape and portrait. I’ve also recently became an Editor for the online platform Urbanautica, and that is proving to be a great way to continue researching about new photographers and works.
Although I experienced a lot of different medium and jobs, photography and video have always been a central point on my path, and I think my background makes me a more versatile professional, providing me with a great adaptability and a lot of diligence in my work. It is with a great deal of motivation that I try my best to overcome all the challenges that I’m faced with, always with a high level of creativity, and a constant need to learn and improve myself. I’m currently in a transition phase, looking for new projects and challenges that I can take part on.
I thank you in advance for your attention and I’m totally available to present myself and clarify any of these matters or others, if you consider it relevant.
