The Washington Post commissioned me to create a cover illustration for their weekly magazine. The issue was focussed on their annual 'Spring Clean' article, about all the things / cultural references to throw out / stop using. There was no real brief as such, I was just asked to come up with a concept that reflected the topic and referenced all the things listed in the article. I suggested using the type as a cleaning contraption, sucking up and disposing off all the things listed in the article. Below, you can see my process for building up the type/composition in 3D.
