Introduction
This is the story of my journey toward becoming a copywriter and how I found the secret to success.

Supplies
To craft this story, I worked on Google Docs and used Grammarly, the Hemingway App, and Reverso.
YOUR PATH TO SUCCESS IS NOT EVEN ABOUT YOU
Being a blooming entrepreneur is so exciting! Yet it can be so painful…
You want to succeed and profit from your dream, but you’re unsure if you have what it takes.
What if I tell you that being a thriving business owner doesn’t depend on your skills or experience on your CV?
Hi, I’m Laura. This is how I realized that your courage and value don’t come from what people think of you. They come from your impact on other people’s success.
WHAT THE FUCK DOES A TEEN KNOW ABOUT LIFE?
As an impulsive teenage decision, I chose Communications as my major. It would be the best way to become a VJ.
That wasn’t the case. I didn’t become a VJ or find a job I’d like to do.
I felt like I had made the worst choice ever.
One day, I found copywriting. That could be my thing. I wanted to live out of the things I love to do the most: writing and correcting people’s grammar.
Then, I found a job at a law firm, which allowed me to prove myself and see if I was copy material.
The best part is that I could pay for the Eurotrip I’ve dreamed of since I watched Mr. Bean for the first time.
I never thought I was gonna take that trip. Ever. It was impossible for me: a girl from the so-called third world; a non-nepo baby; someone with past drug addictions…
Have you ever felt like a slave? Well, believe me, there are many ways to be a slave nowadays. Heroin enslaved me in ways I didn’t think possible.
As you can imagine, quitting is one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. But when I did, I started searching for freedom. Freedom to live without fear.
Back to the Eurotrip dream, I thought it wasn’t possible, so I stopped thinking about it. Until one morning…
I looked at myself in the mirror and saw my first expression lines, which made me feel like my time was running out.
Then, I started watching Vikings. Those gorgeous landscapes and men opened my eyes. I needed to pursue my longtime dream and make that trip happen.
And I did! But I never imagined I was gonna find love on that trip. A love that would change everything.
I COULDN’T POSTPONE MY FREEDOM ANYMORE
My love, Kale, came to see me a few months after my trip. He was only staying for a month, and I couldn’t stop working to be with him. We didn’t have enough time, and I was stuck there, working on a job that wasn’t fulfilling anymore.
He spent most of his time watching me work. I had to be on a schedule. I had to deliver blogs, emails, and so on. I had to be in endless meetings.
I was miserable because I wasn’t the owner of my time — which is one of the most precious things you have. So I quit.
And now come the fears.
How will I be able to pay the rent? Will anyone else see what my old boss saw in me? What if I made a huge mistake?
I looked for other jobs for months, but nothing came up.
JUST FREAKING DO IT!
So, I realized my destiny was not to be an employee. I wanted time to live, travel, and be with my boyfriend whenever I wanted.
I reckoned I would solve this by having my own brand, so I started building one.
Still, I felt scared to face the uncertainty of being my own boss; how would I ensure myself a paycheck every month?
At the same time, I was tired of not having freedom and feeling my talents weren’t appreciated. That scared me the most.
It was a hard decision to make. But I chose freedom.
My first client, Juliana, was also a businesswoman. Juli needed help with her social media, but after a few talks, I realized something bigger.
Her brand was rising to the stars. However, COVID-19 was huge for everyone. Many brands had to deal with many problems to stay afloat, including hers.
Although she’s great at what she does, she was still wrestling to be successful. She needed to make her brand’s message heard. She knew she needed help, but wasn’t sure what she needed help with.
Then, I had a huge discovery.
THE ANSWER I NEVER IMAGINED I’D GET
My studies taught me to listen, find the issues, and be strategic. But I’d only become a businesswoman by helping others and their brands grow.
Juliana and I have been working for almost a year. This was going to be a one-job stand, like a Tinder date that you think would be a fling but ends up being a long-lasting love.
We love to work together because we help each other improve our companies.
I finally learned how to make it. I just needed to believe in myself and use all my experience and knowledge.
HOW IS MY LEARNING YOUR GAIN?
But most importantly, I learned I can fulfill my dreams by helping others achieve theirs.
More than the books I’ve read or the copy I’ve written, my real value stems from how I can inspire my clients to flourish.
Now, I’m glad I am a communications scientist. I’m glad about all the shitty jobs I had before being a copywriter. And I’m glad I realized I needed to conquer my fears and dream again.
This made me who I am:
Someone who helps brands soar with strategic and converting words.
Someone who’s not afraid to dig up, find the source of the problem, and fix it.
Someone who’ll work to put a smile on your face and money in your pocket.

Hallo Laura, @lauragrajales
Weiter so, Laura!
