I work in primary schools as a relief teacher and do art with children. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a Painting major and I have recently returned to studying Architecture part time so have improved my Adobe skills to a fairly basic level. I exhibited my paintings a few times as a student but just do a little bit of painting and drawing when I have time. I would like to develop my watercolour skills as I like to do water colours when we are away camping which is an enjoyable memory and experience for me. I also like to do black ink and pencil or pen drawings as quick sketches. I love learning new skills as I can use them as inspiration when I am teaching and that helps me to feel inspired in my own painting which I want to find more time for.
I have enrolled in 4 courses. Watercolour, bookbinding, children's illustration and botanical printing.
In watercolour and children's illustration, I would like to develop my design and representative techniques. In bookbinding, I would like to bind some of the prints that I have made in the past and also think about making new books containing sketches from holidays and outdoors, or ideas for children's books or my own personal journal art.
I have recently started to use my sewing machine again and so I would like to think about printing on fabric or paper and was interested to see what the botanical printing would be like.
As a primary school teacher, I can use ideas to work with children but also to make things myself in my spare time. I hope to have a bigger studio in the future that I can work in but for now it is part of the spare room or dining room.
