Kyriacos Ioannou

My name is Kyriacos Ioannou, and I am 29 years old. I hold a BEng degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Master’s degree in Sustainable Energy Engineering from the University of Nottingham. Although my academic background differs from woodworking, I am deeply passionate about woodworking and craftsmanship. I have always admired high-quality, well-designed wooden furniture, and my own home features pieces that reflect this appreciation. My passion for woodworking began with crafting furniture and wooden projects for my family, where I discovered the joy of transforming raw materials into beautiful, functional designs. To enhance my skills, I completed the “Woodworking & Carpentry Masterclass: Beginner to Advanced” course on Udemy and am currently enrolled in the Woodworking and Furniture Making course offered by the Ministry of Education’s training centers. My trainer has even used my work as an example of precision and quality for other students, particularly my joinery techniques.
In my previous roles, I developed skills that complement woodworking. As a Project Manager in Renewable Energy, I managed large-scale projects, including proposals for innovative floating solar PV systems. This role honed my organisational and problem-solving abilities. Additionally, as a production and construction engineer at Skoutaris Steel Ltd, I gained hands-on experience with machinery and safety protocols, reinforcing my ability to work with precision and attention to detail. However, I realised that my true passion lies in craftsmanship and design rather than traditional office-based roles. Working with wood provides immense satisfaction—the process of transforming raw materials into thoughtfully designed pieces is both creative and rewarding.
