Hi I'm Chris. I am a retired Civil Engineer living in Gloucestershire. I took up pen and ink drawing and watercolour painting after retiring. I have been a keen photographer since my school days and now use both a Nikon DSLR and a smart phone to capture images. I began drawing a range of subjects from the built and natural environment using pen and ink, and watercolour, usually working from photographs which I had taken. My interest in family history and the places where my ancestors lived and worked provides inspiration for some of my drawing. I also enjoy drawing prehistoric sites such as Stonehenge and the Ring of Brodgar and try to capture the sense on mood and spirituality in my drawings. My use of watercolour was initially for landscapes and coastal scenes, and for adding colour to my pen and ink work. Since undertaking Sarah Stokes' excellent Domestika course, "Artistic Charcoal Portraiture", my drawing skills have developed allowing me to explore a wider range of subjects with greater confidence and I am focusing more on the natural world. Whilst I draw and paint for enjoyment, I do offer some of my work for sale through my ETSY shop CharnwoodFineArt and I have undertaken a commission to draw a wedding venue.
