Introduction
For this course, I designed a chair for Gen X and Gen Z. I applied the course tools to define colors, materials, and finishes. I identified a multi-piece chair that would be suitable for both generations and to which I could apply the CMF principles.
I started by interviewing two different generations, X and Z. Based on their responses, I identified key words to guide the development of the CMF selection. Based on this survey and taking into account cmf design principles, I designed 3 different chairs for both generations.

Supplies
First, I prepared the physical moodboard with various photos and paints. Then I arranged my physical mood board in Adobe InDesign and visualized my final product in Adobe Illustrator.
The Research
I started by interviewing two different generations, X and Z. Based on their responses, I identified key words to guide the development of the CMF selection. I compared the two generations by identifying some keywords from the consumer interview.
According to this survey, both generations use these products every day. However, while Generation X uses them most of the time at home, Generation Z uses them more in social areas, work spaces, and at home.
While Generation X prioritizes the comfort and lightness of a chair, Generation Z prioritizes its design. Generation Z also wants them to be multifunctional. Foldability, easy storage, and adjustable back support are important to Generation Z.
Generation X prefers a chair made of classic materials like wood and upholstery. Generation Z wants chairs that are different, eye-catching and fun.

Physical Mood Board
Using the keywords from the chair consumer interview as a starting point, I began exploring relevant references and color schemes.
For Generation X, I used classic colors like cool grays and walnut to represent their timeless style. Light tones were incorporated to convey functionality and airiness, while orange tones create a cozy atmosphere. Green tones promote peace and serenity, reflecting key values of the generation. The design blends cool stone and warm wood for a classic feel, with light, transparent curtains for a sense of airiness. Beige fabrics add comfort, while gold and dark brown details provide elegance.
The design reflects Generation Z's bold style through a Split-Complementary color palette of blue, yellow, and red, using bright, saturated tones to create an eye-catching effect. Textures like fluffy fabric and sponge add a tactile dimension, while stainless steel and rose gold details bring a futuristic and striking atmosphere. The use of vibrant yellow, red, orange fabrics, and bold red-pink wallpaper symbolizes the energy and dynamism of Gen Z.

The Product
For my final product, I created the First Direction Moodboard, CMF Direction Moodboard and CMF Palette based on the results of the survey I conducted with target users and my reference photos. Based on that survey and taking into account cmf design principles, I designed 3 different chairs for both generations.
