Jardines de Waraira is more than an embroidered head band. For me it represents an adventure that started in Istanbul, Turkey with the idea of exploring new embroidering techniques; and ended in the US with the publishing of my own blog about design, the start of Tita Store and my migration journey. (Check it out by clicking here: https://www.titapatternstore.com/blog )
The process to preparing the soil (design process) started with the selection of images whose colors were attractive to my eye, and wildflowers such as orchids, which is the national flower of my native Venezuela. That is the reason why this project is called Jardines de Waraira (Waraira Gardens), since orchids like to grow in climate and soil like the one the Waraira Repano National Park, located in Caracas, has.
Planting the garden (embroidering process) took place gradually over a week. It was certainly a total exploration over the fabric but keeping the sketches with shape reduction and the compositions I made for unit 3 of this very course, as reference .
The garden started blooming (final phase) once the embroidery was all sewn over the fabric and wrapping the headband.
Jardines de Waraira is a unique piece, with the possibility of being reproduced overtime. It's a fine and delicate piece for decorating the head!
