I am originally from Nottingham in the UK, where I studied textile design at the College of Art, before moving to the University of Manchester to further my studies.

On graduating and working with an architectural practice for experience, I eventually set up my own successful interior design company. Alongside this company, I opened my first retail outlet, a crafts gallery in Altrincham, Cheshire operating for nearly 20 years.

In 2007, I moved to Marrakech with my partner, now husband, to establish Riad Assakina and forge a new life as an hotelier. I was soon working closely with local weavers, furniture makers and metal workers, to create beautiful bespoke items with which to furnish the boutique hotel.

My love of textiles was given free reign, and I began to commission local tailors and embroiderers to make beautiful items of clothing to my own designs. Clothing with a Moroccan twist, but also fashioned so that the clothing was as easily worn at home as well as in Morocco.

I now work alongside local Marrakech artisans and families who produce fashion and interior accessories to my own personal designs. All are ethically manufactured.
