James WR Rudd
I am a freelance writer, critic, communications professional and miniature hobbyist working between Australia and Europe (based in Spain). I hold a bachelor’s degree in Media and another in Arts (English and Creative Writing) from the University of Adelaide, South Australia.
As a freelance writer and journalist, I produce informative and “audience-first” texts that resonate across online and real-life social spaces. In the portfolio section of this website you will find many examples of this work, including arts and events reporting, small-business profiles and culture features. I love the challenge of distilling the complexities of the art world, current events, politics and the contemporary media landscape into beautiful, bite-sized paragraphs.
Alongside my freelance work, I also write and publish creative works, including short stories, creative non-fiction and essays. My work is bright, deep, violent, colourful, energetic, pertinent and rebellious, always acknowledging the brutal realities of our current society and offering transformative alternatives. My first novel, The Good Fruit, is close to completion and my experimental travel blog, Electric Holy Road, is nearing its 100th post.
I am also a miniature hobbyist with a healthy social media following and multi-media artist. Above all, I see myself a conscientious, media-savvy and socially-minded creative with a great passion for all thing weird and wonderful.
My writing has been published extensively in the magazines Broadsheet and Glam Adelaide as well as in On Dit, Hum (Adelaide Uni Writers’ Group), Radio Adelaide, Vaein Zine, internally within organisations including Accolade Wines and The University of Adelaide and through residencies provided by SA Writers Centre and Can Serrat.
