Jo Shackleton

Jo has been in the design industry since graduating from Central Saint Martins, London with a BA (Hons) degree in Graphic Design in 1992. She is founder and creative director at Eighth Day, a Brighton-based design and branding company. From her seaside studio she creates brand identity, print, packaging and digital design, creating solutions that connect with people. She believes in stripping back design and packaging to its core to showcase the essential, in a beautiful way.

Jo designs environmentally friendly packaging. Her clients are start-up companies, well-established brands, individual makers, entrepreneurs, writers and a global corporation – American Express, Dobbies, Pecksniffs and The Maker’s Atelier, to name a few.

She works with reusable and recyclable materials. Her designs use as little packaging as possible. She has built strong relationships with like-minded suppliers and printers, who work with her to explore and use better and more sustainable packaging materials and production methods.

She believes in using natural and biodegradable materials. Packaging made from natural materials such as recycled, virgin or dye-free paper is kinder to the environment. This is a growing passion and an area of continued learning.

Jo is a D&AD Award-winning designer who has worked for many of the larger agencies in London, Madrid and San Francisco on many prominent projects over the years including campaigns for the BBC, Siemens and Greenpeace. Jo founded Eighth Day in April 2002.
