I am a retired architectural designer, Czech by birth but living in Toronto, Canada for most of my adult life.
I have always liked drawing since childhood but busy life kept me away from it. Now that I have time, I am picking up where I left off and trying to achieve my best of my artistic journey.
I overcame my initial frustration when I realized that the process of learning drawing and painting is like learning to play an instrument - it is teaching me humility, patience and mindfulness which I can use in my other life as well:)
I am mostly intrigued by the human form and expressing or evoking human emotion, while capturing the effects of light. I am also open to some landscape and still life but the human form interests me the most. For the last two years I did some studying and practicing from different Internet sources: I became familiar with the Loomis method, straight line block-in and light and shadow rules, Bargue plates, some watercolor.
Starting with classic pencil drawing was very valuable, now I would like to explore charcoal as a faster way to express myself. I am still at the beginning and only looking to find my voice, which I hope will come with more practice. I strongly believe in mastering the rules before we can afford to break them, therefore I am sticking to learning the classic way of creating for now.
