I am an 70 year old mechanical engineer that always loved to repurpose materials and objects to create functional items. During the Covid lockdown, I discovered an epoxy that bonds to glass with UV light. This motivated me to build 3D sculptures with stained glass in a way that could not be accomplished using standard stained-glass techniques. You can see some of them on my website 3Dstainedglass.com
I have attached an image of my full scale Great Blue Heron.
R. Buckminster Fuller was one who inspired me early on in my life. His design of the geodesic dome was one of simplicity but also of strength. One of his quotes that I am now acting on with the discovery of a new way to work with stained glass is "You can’t change the way people think, all you can do is give them a tool, the use of which will change their thinking”.
This class has motivated me to build this ocean inspired project with stained glass and light. I am also an avid windsurfer, so I hope to incorporate a moving windsurfing rig with sailor gliding across the moving waves.
