Retrato com pintura a óleo: explore luz e sombras

This is the first Domestika course that I have bought and finished! It was my first oil painting course and I not only learned an incredible amount, but, I really enjoyed the learning process. I am a total beginner, but am now confident enough to learn more and keep at it. Jane's manner is calm and thorough and quite understated, but don't let that fool you. There's a wealth of information. Thank you Jane!

Jane French is very good at explaining color mixing. Sometimes I think that she makes decisions on colors based on the planes of the face but she does not mention this. My only criticism is the camera work. The camera often steps back to capture Jane sitting in profile with the canvas also in profile. This does nothing for necessary information on brush stroke and is annoying when all I want is to see what she is working on directly. It is still a very good tutorial.

Jane French makes the creative task very accessible even if you have no prior experience with oils. I like the clarity of her instructions, especially the pre-mixing and matching of the paints, watching her work and explain. I watched Jane doing her portrait a few times to learn about paints, brushes, colours and technique, which is a nice vivid style with visible brushstrokes. I finished my portrait (up to the background stage) in two sittings, I enjoyed the course enormously.
