Alessandra Serra

I majored in Advertising, back in 1992, and have worked in the cultural industry since then. After two to three years as an advertising copywriter, I spent most of my work life an executive producer in the music business. For 10 years I worked for Brazilian artist Carlinhos Brown (1999-2009), which I am very proud of, left after a burnout. It had do to with my personality as well as the work load.
The term "executive producer" may mean different things in different industries, so, to make it clear: I was not the one putting money on it, I was a hands on worker, planning, organizing and working on-site during international tours with the artist, as well as at his office. I then spent some time at Bahia State Secretary of Culture, coordinating the Fiscal Incentive Program for Sponsorship of Cultural Projects and Events (Fazcultura) between jobs I did some freelance work both for the Secretary of Culture and for production companies in Brazil. Since 2021, though, I have taken on the job of Executive Director of Bahia Symphony Orchestra, owned by the State of Bahia, but managed by a Civil Society Organization. I have not done any data visualization apart from the usual graphics suggested by Excel, but it is a field that AMAZES me, as it is a resource for making sometimes complex things understood in more straight forward ways. I do not think it is simple to produce a good piece of data visualization. But the results of it, the understanding by the audience is what drives me. I am not a designer, I am an admirer of design and art and, in this case, especially data visualization.
