Antje Schmelzle

Hola! My name is Antje. Originally from Germany but somehow a restless Nomad! I have spent nine years living and working in the UK where I moved to in 2004 after my Bachelors in Fashion Design. Since then I have been staying in India for some months which has deeply affected me in multiple ways and currently I am in my fifth year living on a beautiful and small Greek island in the Ionian Sea.
I have entered a life changing phase with many questions coming up and a growing need to make peace with the past, my roots, and finding my true voice as an artist. I am a little confused as in if I want to continue as a Fashion Designer, add new elements to it or if I should change my direction entirely.
I feel the urge to "reinvent" myself through something new. Plenty to chose from! So I have enrolled in some new courses - let's see!
It is wonderful how we're given all these opportunities, having access to other artists work and sharing knowledge on platforms like here.
Interacting with one another is such a great source of inspiration and a tremendous help.
I have a small children's label ( secret_pocket_design on Insta ) in which I've put incredible amounts of work and love. My main focus lays on reclaiming materials, using many colours and patterns/prints and adding special details. I like to avoid parts such as zips and if possible also elastics to extend the lifespan of a garment. All my designs are one offs.
