Alan Maglio (1979) is a lens-based artist who investigates themes concerning the subconscious, memory and the uncanny. He develops his research trough photography and physical manipulation of found images. He has also worked with cinema as director of "Milano Centrale. Stories from the Train Station" (2007), "Asmarina" (2015) and "Bar Ethiopia" (2021), movies focused on the cultural identity of African communities in Italy.
He is the author, together with Luca Matarazzo and Salvatore Garzillo, of the volume "Ultima Edizione. Storie nere dagli archivi de La Notte" (2019, Milieu Ed.), which after a three-year study brought to light unpublished photographic materials from "La Notte," historical Italian crime newspaper. His research project "Nuda proprietà" led him to photograph interiors of more than one thousand apartments in Milan, over the past eight years. His series "African Portraits" is part of the permanent collection of Mudec - Museo delle Culture in Milan.
His main interest remains the creation of new artworks through the reinterpretation of images from photographic archives, this study resulted in the "Stop Series" project, which began in 2019 and is still in constant development.
