Julie Mellan

Hi ! My name is Julie Mellan, I’m a French illustrator.
When I was 5 years-old, I was reading Peter Rabbit with my mom, and I told her that drawing for children’s books must be a pretty cool job. Now, as a grownup, I can tell I was totally right !
My love for art began the first day I could hold a pen: I spent my childhood drawing the animal characters from the old classic Disney animated movies and reading the Beatrix Potter's books. After earning a literary bachelor’s degree, I studied classic drawing, painting, illustration, and animation in the French art school Ecole Emile Cohl during four years. Once graduated, I continued on my way, practicing and learning every day. My work appears in many children’s books from Penguin Random House, Clavis or Fleurus...

Attached to traditional mediums, I work with watercolor and my favorite subjects are cute, clumsy animals. I always try to tell a story in my illustrations, evoke an emotion, paint a connexion between the characters or a particular atmosphere, brought especially by the light. Inspiration is everywhere, and I want to keep my eyes wide open !
