I decided to take on the challenge of creating my own pattern. It ended up being way harder than I thought. I failed a couple of times and wasted a few good sheets of polypropylene. However, I learned from the first two mistakes and was finally able to create a pattern that worked.
The pattern seen in the pictures was inspired by an origami design.
The most difficult aspects were:
Folding the PP sheet without damaging it. I have many diagonal lines that lack continuity.
Figuring out the shape for the top and bottom caps. It wasn't hard to determine the size or the shape (hexagon, pentagon, etc.). The challenge was realizing that they needed to be shaped like a star in order to allow the PP sheet to hold its shape and fold properly.
I want to express my gratitude to Phil for sharing his method and his overall knowledge and experience. I had so much fun doing this course, and I look forward to applying these methods to create other objects
