Mercantile Scale Model. 1970s Rural West.

Techniques to create scale models with @julietalavalle was a great opportunity to dive deep into the creation of interior spaces. This project portraits a rural mercantile around the 1970s in the north american west. Wood is the main material used in this constructions and these charming pieces of architecture are still standing providing sometimes the only alternative to grocery shopping in isolated areas. The scene depicts a delivery truck in the outside, dropping groceries and supplies for the store, as well as a coke dispenser replacement.

Details of construction: 1- Tracing and beveling corrugated cardboard to make the interior walls. They'll be stained with shoe polish. 2- Main panels are in place to form the space, floor surface is made out of balsa wood as well as outside surfaces. 3- Front wall in the making, this particular panel is very thick, it was the only solid wall on old constructions. 4- Window sills and door frame are in place on the front wall. 5- Beams are cut to form the structure of the roof. The cardboard template is to put them together keeping an even spacement.

More construction details: 1- Roof structure is completed and ready for the shingles. 2- Small pieces of balsa wood are unevenly cut to mimic the texture of shingles, very typical material on the rural constructions. 3- Window sills and frames are made of bass wood. 4- Furniture test before making items to fill them. 5- Bookshelf is ready. 6- Cereal boxes started filling the aisle shelf.
