karla

Karla Kracht builds retro-futurist worlds from handmade puppets, live cameras, and circuit boards. Based in Barcelona since 2004, trained in Germany, the UK, and Spain.
Her live cinema performances are constructed entirely by hand: dark rooms where miniature film sets, motorized figures with glowing LED eyes, and live-camera feeds collapse into a single cinematic space. The form absorbs theatre, projection, video art, and live performance and builds a new grammar from the parts. She has been making it since before the category had a name.
Works include Ghost in the Machine, What Humanity Taught Us, and Divine Cyborg #17: Dancing with the Ghosts — all set in post-sapiens futures. Shown in 22+ countries; venues include Guggenheim Museum Bilbao and Taipei Puppetry Art Center. Supported by the Goethe Institute, Acción Cultural Española, and the European Cultural Foundation.
