Jane Burt

I grew up on South Africa. My personal history is intertwined and deeply interwoven into the history of South Africa. All my life decisions have been around working towards undoing the hours of South Africa's history of apartheid. I now find myself in England after suffering from PTSD in South Africa. Uprooted. I have just finished my PhD a process that left me deeply dissatisfied. When I handed in my PhD my partner bought me a starter embroidery kit. I had not put a needle to thread since I was 8 years old. I loved it. It feels like I'm sewing the contradictions together, the unfinished things, the disappointments and the lost dreams. I don't know much about art or about sewing. I love photographs. All I am clear about is I want to continue to embroider.
