Hi there. I came to the Delaware bayshore 6 years ago to be closer to Nature and to be an artist. Here I am overwhelmed by the life teeming around me: during the recent Fall migration record numbers of hawks funneled down through the Cape May peninsula on the Atlantic flyway. I enjoy taking part in horseshoe crab surveys and tagging as well as protecting Piping Plover chicks. Artistically I’ve been in a curious state since coming here, experimenting/working in various media including acrylics, oils, printmaking, etching, etc. Painting in oils seems to satisfy me (for now) however, I wonder if it will continue to hold me. I really want to find something and stick with it. I have been welcomed into a beautiful community of artists here, a fact for which I’m extremely thankful.
A lifelong artist, I nevertheless had no formal training. My dad and grandad were artists so there was encouragement, quality supplies, and access to books about art, which I pored over. My father was my first and best critic, unstinting and objective. Like Jane, I was often asked by classmates to draw something for them and during school the art room was my inner sanctum, the place I felt safe.
I wound up studying Eng Lit in college but took as many art and art history classes I could. I’ve never visited a city without going straight to its art museum and I’ve never stopped making art of one kind or another.
I create mostly for myself but I’ve had some success in selling my pieces.
