Throughout my academic years I always took art classes and even minored in Art in college (with a focus on fabric arts), but my real love was history. So, I became a history teacher and for the past few decades used my artistic creative side with my 3 children as well as enhance my lesson plans and classroom surroundings. Recently retired (and now a grandma of 4!) I find myself on the road frequently to visit family and to play tourist! Two years ago I returned to Italy for a few weeks and was inspired by the architecture and vibrancy of life there. I came back with beautiful photos of my trip and while planning my return trip I felt the need to draw what I was experiencing. Only problem was...I didn't know how to draw! I saw a course on Domestika using markers and focusing on architecture, and decided to give it a try. I LOVED IT! I practiced techniques/colors using my previous trip photos and carried a sketchbook everywhere I traveled on the following trip. Since my return, I signed up for more classes, selecting mediums and topics which I was actually frightened of: portrait drawings and watercolors. I still struggle with drawing faces, but have fallen in love with watercolors and am now super excited to add gouache techniques to my repertoire! I've even returned to my fabric arts background and am weaving one of the landscape photos I took as well! Very excited about where this adventure is taking me!
