This was an excellent course. I have taken several on-line courses and purchased instructional dvds a-plenty, but this was by far my favorite. Every step of the painting is demonstrated through to completion. Richard’s art is beautiful and he shares his materials, tips and techniques without holding back. I’ve been painting in watercolors for over 30 years, but I learned a lot. I’m anxious to put these techniques into practice. (His soothing voice is a nice touch!)

An exceptionally good course from a brilliant artist. I learned a lot about the application of masking fluid to simulate moving water and gouache to add fine detail. Also a very good overview of how to build up layers of washes to add depth and contrast to the background.

This course was great; I learned a lot, especially about brush strokes and improving watercolor techniques. The instructor is inspiring and talented! It was interesting to learn about other watercolor artists, color palettes, and different brushes to use too. Thank you!

Very nice…I’ve been watercoloring for a long time…I appreciate your beginnings where you do quick sketch and tonal drawings. I’m really drawn to some of the landscapes you’ve photographed and I’ve always been puzzled with how I paint details such as water movement, trees, twigs, etc. I’m going to work on this. Thanks

I enrolled for this course because I was getting fed up with doing traditional watercolour landscapes in a realistic style. I certainly learned from Richard’s lessons, thank you. The only things to note are that (a) Richard uses a lot of different colours (which don’t all correlate with the list given in the resource page) which meant that he had 14 palettes going at one stage and (b) the background music is louder than Richard’s voice and for me is an unnecessary distraction from the art.

This is the fourth Domestika course I have taken and the best. I have learned a number of really helpful techniques that have helped me make huge advances in my watercolors. But also, it is extremely pleasurable to watch Richard work at his craft. Seeing how he creates his beautiful painting is highly inspiring. Thank you.

This is such a good course on landscape painting from a very knowledgable and talented artist who explains everything in a way that is accessible and inspiring. I am learning so much and looking forward to trying these techniques myself to create my own landscapes.
