“We have now reached the end of the course! Thank you so much for participating. I really hope you feel encouraged to create a scheme that is ‘authentically you’! In this course, I have shown you how to approach this. Now, before we go our separate ways, I would like to remind you once more of the individual steps that will help you to develop your final project. First, decide on a room. Then, start collecting potential colours, textures, and patterns. With your gathered inspiration and creative sparks, develop your mood and material boards.

Photograph your room and select the best. You will use this as your guide when sketching out the interior design. Upload the image to Photoshop in an A3-sized file. Stretch your photo until it fits nicely into the centre of the page. Don't worry if the image is slightly blurred. You should only plan to use it as a sketching tool. Next, select a black, charcoal colour and the creative tool of your choice. I like to sketch with a palette knife to achieve a bold look, but you can use any Photoshop brush. Create a new layer on top of the photo and start to sketch out your core room shape: lines for the walls, ceiling, skirting boards, and so on. Once you are happy with your sketch and feel as though it represents your design well, add another layer to prepare for the next stage. Now, fill in the walls and ceiling with your chosen colours. You might be able to keep the floor texture from the original photo within your sketch, but if not you should adapt this too. Then, consider where your key pieces of furniture will be. First, try sketching over the furniture that's already there: use it as a guideline (just as I did with the bed in "Final Sketch in Photoshop: Drawing and Collage"). If not, photoshop the furniture you have sourced into your image and use them as templates. Once your furniture is in place, start to think about texture and pattern. Are you incorporating some wallpaper? You can either photoshop this in for a more realistic look or interpret the pattern as a sketch. Now, take a step back and evaluate if any finishing touches are required, like foliage or additional soft furnishings.
