Hi Lucas, this is really excellent work! Your use of lighting is very engaging and I think is what makes it your own signature style. I really like the use of backlight in this and how it makes the whole scene glow. And your use of shadows and vignetting work very well, drawing your eye to the main points of the child and the lamp on the desk. So I think the way you created this composition is strong, using the rule of thirds and also having the child looking back and leading us into the scene of the library. Conceptually I think it tells a really good story, the only thing that you could add is maybe an opportunity to put more things on the desk. Perhaps a specific book or other story-telling elements to give us more of narrative of what he is up to at the library. Or you could also add some hidden details in the bookcase that you might not see at first until you look more closely. Mainly think about what is the 'story' you are telling through this image.
But I think your skills are really spot-on, you have a very distinct style and your have found a great niche for your work. I think you will do very well in this medium combining photography and storytelling. Have you seen this work by Erik Johansson? So, keep up the good work and perfecting your personal style of image making. The only other thing I would say is to experiment more as well, and try and get out of your comfort zone sometimes because it might lead you to some interesting ideas you might not have thought of before. Whether it is subject matter, backgrounds, lighting, style or different techniques, always keep thinking of ways to make your work fresh and stand out.
