Blathnaidh Colhoun

Textiles and embroidery are what I'm drawn to. Colour, nature, archictecture (old and new), photography and the juxtaposition and sigularity of objects are inspiring.

The profile picture is a piece of Mountmellick embroidery I did 30 years ago and finished only recently. This must be some kind of record! Last year, I returned to classes with the same teacher I had back then, until the lockdown put an end to that. Because white threads are used on white cloth, designs can be big and bold. I love the fact that the stitches create the variety of texture.

My background in education and career is completely unrelated to all of the above! Now there is time......
