Rebecca Douglass

Newcastle born, London based dance artist Rebecca Douglass is exploring her place in the chaotic yet exciting world of movement and new media art. She completed her BA (Hons) at London Contemporary Dance School and was the recipient of the 2020 Principal’s Award. During this time, she found inspiration working with creators such as Leah Marojevic, Seke Chimutengwende, Leila McMillan, Florence Peake and Eve Stainton.

She is curious to unpick how training in movement can support ventures into other versions of herself as a curator, writer and researcher. In March 2020, she curated ‘COME/CLICK TO SEE’, an evening of multidisciplinary artwork at Muxima, a micro-performance cafe in East London. She is currently a member of The Fearless Artist’s ‘Young Curators Programme 2021’.

Collaboration is central to her practice; negotiating themes from multiple artistic perspectives and absorbing new skills along the way. She has enjoyed working with filmmakers Isaac Bebbington and Ayano Kamiyama, Themselves Collective, musician Lucy Mair and DJ/ sound artist Jake Burgess- a regular collaborator in Rebecca’s work.
Always keen to experiment across disciplines herself, Rebecca has intertwined dance with installation, tapestry making, text and (in the case of erms?) digital art and filmmaking. erms? marks a shift in her interest. Made amidst the pandemic, the themes of absurdity, existential questioning, cyberself and feminism are embedding themselves into Rebecca’s fascination, settling in for future projects.
