Olya Law

Hi, my name is Olya Law. I was born and raised in Russia (Tver city) until I moved to United States in 2001. I live in Saratoga Springs, Utah for the last 10 years.
I always loved to draw, since I was a kid. I was drawing a lot of horses, animals, Disney characters and characters from other animation movies and books.

In early years, I wasn't sure what I wanted to do after graduating HS, so I took a safe path and followed my Mom's steps. I finished my BS in Accounting-Audit, and then, I went for my Masters in Finance-Bank Sys., and my last BS in Healthcare Administration. Unfortunately, I never took any Art education, so I am self-taught. But for all those years I kept drawing on the side, sketched in my notebooks, looking at Disney animation characters, saving ideas on Pinterest, Youtube and … etc.

In 2015, I started taking local classes from UVU in watercolor and I am still taking it. I’ve learned a few things over those years, started to developed a style I like to follow. I have been trying to use other artist’s work (from Pinterest mostly) as a reference, so I could develop some skills and colors techniques.

I use my left hand to draw, right hand to write, but when I paint watercolors I use both. It helps me to move color with a second brush right away to the direction I need, and then again, to add color to the areas I feel.
I still love to draw cute animals, and faces, characters… I am drawn towards the illustration. One thing I do not enjoy drawing is - landscapes, and I am terrible at it! Ha ha :-)
I am not a professional, I still wish to learn more and establish my personal style. I have so many ideas in my mind that I wish to express on the paper. This is why I am taking this course.
In March 2021, I took online class for Children’s Illustrations books, and it gave a me a little bit of a taste what this all about. So now, I would love to learn more and get better and better at it! I don’t know where would this lead me to, but so far, the process is very exciting and this is my passion to follow. Thank you!
