Clarity

I took this self portrait during a moment of frustration. I was trying to force an idea and felt disconnected from photography, like I wanted to walk away from portrait work. When I covered my mouth and saw myself reflected in the mirror, I recognized an emotion I hadn’t planned to photograph. I captured it because it reflected something I feel internally at times like feeling lost, quiet, and emotionally stuck. I wanted to freeze that moment so I could return to it later and remember not just how I looked, but how I felt.

I used Lightroom to edit and 1 light source

My process is intuitive. I begin with curiosity instead of certainty and allow the portrait to evolve as I shoot. I take multiple images, respond to what I notice, and refine from there until something fells honest. This project reminded me that creativity can come from exploration, not just planning. You do not always need to know exactly what you are creating before you begin. Sometimes creating is how you discover what you are feeling.
