Fear is an emotional state that is present in many contexts in our lives and that can influence our communication.
As a rule, fear is a feeling of alertness that arises when we are aware that we are facing a situation that puts us in danger. But it can also be triggered simply by an idea that something is not pleasant for us and causes us anxiety and insecurity.
When we feel fear, our body starts to react, for example our heartbeat increases and our breathing becomes faster. And unconsciously, we usually have two natural reactions: confrontation or escape from the situation that triggered the fear!
The feeling of fear can happen when we communicate and especially in some contexts, such as a presentation or lecture, a meeting, or a job interview. Surely you have felt some kind of fear when you have been exposed to speak in some of these contexts.
Here are some of the most common fears we may experience when we communicate, and if you like, write down the ones you have experienced and usually experience most often:
✅ The fear of making mistakes
✅ The fear of being criticized
✅ The fear of wanting to please everyone
✅ The fear of not knowing who are the people you will talk to
✅ The fear that the audience won't be interested in what you're going to say
✅ The fear of showing vulnerability
✅ The fear of not looking good
Reflect on the fears you have experienced and think about how much they can limit you and lead to avoidance and escape situations
Can some of these fears be controlled? If yes, try to focus on them and think about what you can do to stop them from being a fear
If you can't control them, then don't waste time and energy thinking about them.
Don't be afraid to face your fears and to overcome yourself. Take this challenge!

@teresa_mourao Excellent talk! Looking at how you delivered it, you had a very nice even and controlled pace and you were very engaging, warm and animated. The message of the talk was clear and gave a practical approach to how you can deal with fears. I would have loved to also hear a story in there, a personal story of yours about how you overcame a particular fear that was holding you back. But otherwise well done! :)
@dasha_dollar_smirnova Thank you so much for your lessons in the Course and your feedback to my project. As soon I can, I will make the new video about my personal history. You are an inspiration!
Fear to.please and fear for mistaking are mine. Also fear of the audience not being interested
@biromediouf thank you for sharing your fears. You can bem stronger than them!! :)
Hello @teresa_mourao, congrats. You are very brave to upload your project and expose yourself to the public :-)
First of all, I think it is very nice to see, I even put the subtitles in my language to understand the message, but even without subtitles it is very nice to see you and listen to you, you seem calm, confident and comfortable.
On the other hand, just as a constructive comment, I missed a story, a nice opening with a personal story to get me hooked on the talk... but I think you have done a great job so congrats again. I hope I can upload mine soon.
Post-edit: Sorry, I didn't see Dasha's comment, I said the same ;-)
@narcisoguerrero Olá! Muito obrigada pelo seu feedback e comentário construtivo :) A ver se consigo fazer o novo vídeo em breve. Fico a aguardar que publique o seu!
Hi Theresa, you are one brave lady! Really facing your fears and taking action. Being a role model. Thanks. Shall try to follow the example soon.
Hi Christa,
Muito obrigada pelo seu feedback. Se acreditar que é capaz e tentar desafiar-se, não tenho dúvida que irá conseguir :)
