Ávila | Projecting the void
You can see the project on our website
Ávila is a project that reinterprets what was originally an open-plan warehouse located in Barcelona's Poble Nou neighborhood, transforming it into a 120 m² multifunctional, habitable space. The proposal aims to carry out this transformation using what we call "the minimal means for inhabiting a place," that is, storage, wet areas, and circulation, considering the entire free volume and not just its surface area.
Based on the arrangement of different elements that articulate the different spaces, and with the minimum necessary partitions, we worked and designed the void as the main element of the proposal. Likewise, the upper floor's hallway is conceived as a diagonal, square-shaped void that, despite the simplicity of the complex, allows for cross-sectional views between all the rooms, including the rear facade from the staircase.
The use of continuous materials and light colors aims to create a bright, neutral, and warm space, utilizing furniture and integrating it from the outset of the project. The proposal emphasizes the space through its simplicity, the different textures of the materials, and the light, eschewing any excess or ornamentation and focusing on responding to the needs of its inhabitants.
