I was born in Barry, a small seaside town in Wales, UK. I attended university to study English literature and Linguistics. I tried my hand at teaching but decided it was not for me. I eventually ended up in the NHS as an auditor in medical statistics.I have written eight novels on Kindle but have turned to art since moving to Spain. I have been retired for over six years and have lived in Spain for four years. I have always been interested in playing with design and photo software, including Adobe and Serif. I have the full Affinity Suite, including Photo. I have experience with Windows and Mac. I spend most of my time drawing and painting, a hobby I have had since childhood. I use image manipulation software to crop, improve and enhance photographs for use with my artwork, including HDR. I want to learn a little more about Affinity Photo as an aid to creating photographs which more consistently meet my needs. I want to be able to produce pictures which more adequately reflect the emotion I felt when I first took them.
I have mostly been producing work in pen and ink, pastel (soft and oil) and pencil, with the occasional piece in watercolour. I have recently become interested in urban sketching in line and wash (watercolour) and have been targeting this as a relative area of deficiency. I had never before taken seriously the notion of making a sketchbook or even plein air outdoor. I have changed my opinion on this, which is why I am taking the course in Architectural Sketching with Watercolour and Ink to improve my use of watercolour with pen and ink.
