My project for course: Watercolor Urban Illustration: Portray your City

This is my final project in which I was drawing and painting a japanese storefront with blackliners and watercolors.

The reference

I was picking the following reference because of the interesting colors, compositions and the overall impression this place left on me.

The drawing

It was not easy to pick up all the relevant details without drawing every nitty gritty bit and piece. Added some more plants just because I love drawing them (and their green will add a nice contrast to the other colors). At the end I was pretty happy with how the drawing turned out.

The painting

I was adding several layers of watercolors (and some colored pencil strokes here and there), aiming for a high saturation and a good contrast between bright and dark areas. Again this wasn't easy for me, with each layer my fear was growing to ruin everything. Think I have to practice more to find the confidence to fully embrace and enjoy this important step.
