The assignment for the final project was to create an animation based on a business in our area. I chose to portray scenes from my local library. The image is therefore inspired by that branch of the library, but with a different layout for the sake of the image. I wanted to capture a lot of different scenes and micro-stories that happen in the library, and capture a broad variety of people. There's always something great happening at the library, although the books don't actually fly and move on their own (except at night when everyone has gone home), and sadly there aren't any giant books laying in the middle of the room. But the red sofa, the tables by the windows and in the main room, the green screen studio, the 3D printer (without lasers), the sliding doors, the librarians with their carts—all of those are indeed there in real life.
The longest task for me was creating the layered image in Illustrator, which was then used to create the animation in After Effects. I realized as I was completing the image that I had made it far too complex for the assignment, with too many fine details. However, the benefit of this was getting a lot of practice creating objects in Illustrator, and learning how to layer and prepare the elements for animation.
